OTRS, Znuny and OTOBO have a clean upgrade path. The page is pretty straight forward. All upgrades need to be executed after another. Means how can you upgrade the versions 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.0, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 4, 5, 6.0, 6.1, 6.2, 6.3 and 6.4
How to upgrade / migrate to latest version
You have to upgrade to each of this named versions, step by step. Means you cannot skip any version upgrade! You have to execute the upgrades in this order:
- 1.1
- 1.2
- 1.3
- 2.0
- 2.1
- 2.2
- 2.3
- 2.4
- 3.0
- 3.1
- 3.2
- 3.3
- 4.0
- 5.0
- 6.0
- 6.1
- 6.2
- 6.3
- 6.4
- and so on
For example if you are on version 3.3 right now and you want to get to 6.4, you have to execute each upgrade step:
- upgrade to 4.0
- upgrade to 5.0
- upgrade to 6.0
last OTRS maintained version and fork to Znuny - upgrade to 6.1
first Znuny only maintained version and fully compatible to OTRS - upgrade to 6.2
- upgrade to 6.3
- upgrade to 6.4
You must not skip any step, since the upgrades are not cumulative and each upgrade step must be executed.
Experiences prior 6.1+ upgrades
Sadly prior 6.1 the upgrade are a big pain. Depending on your size of the installation the upgrades can take ages or many intermediate steps to fix upgrade issues.
Steps for the upgrades:
- Ensure that you have a good testing environment with your real data to test the upgrades
- Ensure that your fall-back in the production upgrade, so that you can quickly switch back to the backup to be back online fast
- Do thorough tests before you go online on production!

Where can you find the public documentations?
- 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3
hopefully you do not need to upgrade to one of these version, since you are having tons of security issues open in your installation. Anyway you will find the corresponding PDFs named with the version you want to upgrade. E.g. if you are on OTRS 2.4 and you want to upgrade to OTRS 3.0 google for: ‘OTRS admin book 3.0’ - 4.0
